Advanced Clinical Physiology Testing
Health, Performance and Rehabilitation
Go beyond the 15-minute consult: Get the detailed physiological data your doctor needs.
Get more confidence in things close to your heart
We provide specialist-grade physiological data and reporting to support accurate medical diagnosis and targeted treatment.
Utilizing global gold-standard equipment, Med-Ex offers rapid-access investigation for complex and sometimes unexplained symptoms (such as fatigue, dizziness, and palpitations) alongside advanced cardiovascular risk stratification.
As cardiovascular disease remains the leading global mortality risk, particularly for those aged 50+, standard peripheral blood pressure checks are often insufficient. We provide the objective central hemodynamics and respiratory data you and your doctor need—without the public hospital waitlists focusing on essential physiological and biochemical analysis that uses gold-standard equipment and techniques to give you a full body warrant of fitness or physical.
Tests We Typically Perform
Covered by many major private health insurance policies when referred by a GP for symptom investigation.

A sedentary lifestyle and or aging can be associated with declines in cardiorespiratory function. This can lead to early onset of lifestyle related disease and In seniors may result in an impaired capacity to maintain independent functioning and reduces life quality. We help you avoid this and use the latest European and Australasian technologies by;
Will electronically measure and monitor your balance, flexibility, walking patterns (gait), muscle and strength to help design programs to overcome weaknesses.
Will assist with rehabilitation and or produce data for other health professionals such as physios, OT’s and nutritionists to get you in tip top shape.

We provide the Gold standard European Bioimpedance Analysis (BIA) for body composition.
We use an Akern devices that have over 2000 peer reviewed studies behind them.
In addition we do Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing (CPET) to identify the optimal exercise intensities for fat burning. The tests can be sub-maximal or maximal depending on fitness and clinical status. These test are also highly prognostic for health and longevity.
-
We screen for cardiac related abnormalities
using ECG and HRV carried out using sub-maximal exercise tests and holtered monitoring over long periods of time, if necessary 7 days.
Screening of single 5 or 12 lead traces along with artefact detection (99.8 % accurate) can provide assurance that you are able to exercise safely, reports are sent to GPs and other health providers on request.

Our sedentary society can cause poor arterial health that can lead to cardiovascular disease.
We test the effectiveness of your arteries to accommodate pressure changes non-invasively using gold standard ambulatory 24-hour BP monitoring and arterial stiffness measurement (Pulse Wave Velocity) with and without exercise stressors.
Both measures are powerful predictors of the risk of developing, cardiovascular, heart and or kidney disease. What’s your risk ?

Designed for significant difference, we create and carryout exercise programs (prescription) to reduce the chance of disease and premature death as we age.
Physical activity is associated with 35% risk reduction for cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality and 33% risk reduction for all-cause mortality.
A major contributor to diseases for example is hypertension (high blood pressure) and diabetes, which are increasingly prevalent in New Zealand.
Physical activity and exercise are inversely related to both, the more correct exercise you do the lower the risk. With advanced technologies to monitor your exercise including blood pressure, heart (ECG), vascular health for example.
We provide clinically monitored exercise programs and reported metrics of health improvement in person or with a Phone app that assists program adherence.

Spirometry can be done in a doctor’s office or in the comfort of your own home.
Our equipment is the latest that has adherence to the latest international guidelines including ATS Interpretation 2021, ATS Spirometry 2019, ATS DLCO 2017.
We also offer standardised Walk Tests known also as 6 minute or 6MWT, Endurance-Shuttle Walk Tests (E-SWT), Intermittent SWT and Titration tests. Using plethysmographic pulse oximetry we are able to create perfusion Indices for each SpO2 value and measure your pulmonary health and fitness.

Gold-standard at-home sleep profiling to investigate snoring, chronic daytime fatigue, and resistant hypertension.
Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is a leading—yet frequently undiagnosed—driver of cardiovascular disease, arrhythmias, and elevated blood pressure. If you suffer from unrefreshing sleep, loud snoring, or unexplained daytime exhaustion, relying on subjective questionnaires is not enough. You need objective overnight data.
Med-Ex provides rapid-access, clinical-grade sleep testing using the Nox T3 Sleep Monitor and Nonin High-Resolution Pulse Oximetry—the global standards in ambulatory sleep diagnostics.
What the testing measures:
Continuous Overnight Oxygen Saturation (SpO2): Precise tracking of oxygen drops (desaturations) using Nonin's industry-leading sensors.
Respiratory Effort & Airflow: Monitoring breathing patterns, apneas (pauses in breathing), and hypopneas throughout the night.
Heart Rate Variability & Snoring Audio: Correlating cardiovascular stress with respiratory events.
How it works: Bypass the long hospital sleep-clinic waitlists. You will be fitted with the compact, non-invasive monitor at our Christchurch clinic, sleep comfortably in your own bed at home, and return the device the next day.
Clinical Reporting: We generate a comprehensive, specialist-grade sleep report. This provides your GP or Sleep Clinic (referred) respiratory physician with the exact objective physiological data required to formalize an OSA diagnosis and initiate appropriate treatment (such as CPAP therapy).
Let’s check the activities you work on together
We provide exercise prescription that is tailored to those with or want to avoid chronic health conditions, such as diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular, metabolic, heart and kidney disease and also oncology patients. We can monitor heart, blood pressure, strength, joint range of motion and gait while you exercise aligned with international peer reviewed sports medicine advice from the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). We are happy to work with your other significant health professional who may recommend exercise to ensure that you take advantage of its health benefits.
