Righto Boys – Let’s Get One of Our Own to Sydney 🇦🇺🏉

Many Thanks to Nick Bernie & Ministry of Elevation for organising.

Can I grab your attention

Quickly.

There’s a young lad at Christ's College—Hoani Kahukiwa—who’s been given a shot most of us would’ve killed for back in the day:
a place in the 1st XV squad heading over to Sydney.

Problem is… the tour costs about $6,000.

The school can cover roughly $2,000–$2,500, which leaves a gap of about $3,500–$4,000 to actually get him on the plane.

Here’s the Good News (and Why This Is Easy)

We’re not asking anyone to cough up cash today.

👉 All we need right now is a commitment.

The team at Matheson Rae Chartered Accountants are backing this and will underwrite the upfront cost, so Hoani can be locked in for the tour while we sort the funding collectively.

So:

  • No awkward “can you transfer today?”

  • No pressure timing-wise

  • Just a simple: “Yep, I’m in for $X”

  • 👉 Just message what you’re in for — that’s all we need right now.

We’ll track commitments and square it up once the target is reached.

We’ll settle it properly once the total is reached.

Why Bother?

Because this stuff actually matters.

This isn’t just a rugby trip:

  • It’s integration into the team before the season starts

  • It’s confidence and belonging

  • It’s the difference between starting behind the eight ball… or hitting the ground running

And if we’re honest—if this was one of us back then—we’d hope someone would’ve stepped up.

The Numbers (Nice and Simple)

Let’s say:

  • 20 guys commit $200 → done

  • 40 guys commit $100 → done even faster

  • A few go heavier, a few lighter → still done

This is easy work for this group.

On A Slightly More Serious Note

Sport’s changed a bit since our day.

These boys are:

  • Training harder

  • Competing earlier

  • Pushing higher loads

Which is great—but it also means we need to be smarter around health and performance.

That’s where what we’re building at Med-Ex comes in:

  • CPET (cardiopulmonary exercise testing)

  • HRV monitoring

  • Vascular and cardiac screening

Not to overcomplicate things—but to make sure:

Performance is built on a solid physiological base, not guesswork.

If we’re backing athletes, it makes sense we also think about how they’re developing under the hood, not just what we see on the field.

Back to the Point

By all accounts this is a good kid, a good opportunity for the XV, and a pretty small ask when spread across the group.

👉 So just reply / message / confirm what you’re in for.

That’s it.

We’ll track commitments on the What’sApp group, and Nick Bernie will tally and confirm with Lizzy Dyer (CC) to close the gap, and make sure he’s on that plane to Sydney with the squad.

Final Word

We all talk about “giving back” at some stage.

This is one of those moments where it’s:

  • Simple

  • Tangible

  • And actually makes a difference

Let’s get it done.
